About Us

In 2019, “Abit” began as a playful prefix for YouTube videos I planned to create on scientific topics—like “Abit about Global Ecology” or “Abit about Quantum Information.” Naturally, the channel took up the name: AbitScience.

After joining IISER Pune in 2020, the pandemic provided me with some time to explore these interests and learn some skills in media. However, it wasn’t until the summer of 2022 that I would complete my first full video. A year later, I uploaded my first video, while working on many others. Around this time, I started realising that I would need better production quality, a team and, most importantly, more time to make the long-form videos I was interested in.

I then started interviewing my friends at IISER Pune about their research and internships, experimenting with short, vertical-video formats. I was hoping to spark interest in India about research in the natural sciences, but the page blew up far faster than I had anticipated. We reached 9,000 followers in 4 months, as I travelled in India to interview undergraduates and professors from other IISERs.

Mishika joined me in late 2024, which I couldn’t be more grateful for. I stopped posting to focus on my research for 6 months, and it would’ve been impossible to restart without her help.

We’re now continuing to grow as a team, a space for science journalism and a platform globally.
